Purpose: Build the class spirit, inculcate values, encourage child-run class assembly and continuously motivate children to remain the Best Class. Keep child informed about upcoming events. Enforce the Language policy and become a role model for the whole class.

Responsibilities of the Home Room Teacher will include but are not limited to:
Level and Subject Meetings
Ø Attend weekly level meeting; contribute to the smoother functioning of the level
Ø Attend monthly Subject Meetings
Class Assembly
Ø Create a class calendar to ensure that assembly activities are assigned to children on rotation
Ø Follow the order listed below:
§ Prayer on broadcast → News reading → Thought for the day
§ Word for the day – usage and spelling
§ 1-minute moral story by teacher → Positive reminder on Discipline and Behavior
§ Math activity → Science question → Thirukkural – whole class recites 1 verse/week
§ My 5-minutes
1. One day per week
2. Allow children to showcase their talent
3. Select the best presentation of the week
4. Submit the name to Student Welfare Committee Head who will shortlist the names for Talents’ Day, celebrated at the end of the year
Student Portfolio
Ø Consolidate and update student data – attendance, communication, report cards
Ø Allow children to update their Student Portfolio folder, once a month
Class newsletter
Ø Help children to contribute to class newsletter – provides ideas, form groups and assign responsibilities
Ø Email the soft copy of the newsletter to Level Head before 23rd of each month
Leave Approval
Ø Get the leave approved by level head
Ø Arrange for materials to be used by the substitution teachers – up-to-date Teacher Notebook would be handy
Ø Arrange for substitute teacher
Smooth Functioning of the Class
Ø Arrive to class on time and complete class on time
Ø Report any equipment that needs repair or replacement to the level head
Ø Ensure that students present more and are encouraged to take on learning responsibility
Ø Follow a predictable routine with ample scope for student involvement
Ø Arrange for and attend PTMs
Ø Encourage students to look for cues provided by the Stimulating Environment Head
Learning on Wheels
Ø Ensure children are learning while on bus
Ø Empower children to conduct games and declare winners of the day
Ø Ensure all students are given equal opportunity
Ø Pay special attention to children with special talent and encourage the child to open
