Job Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
Maintain & Administer GIS data for numerous projects.
Assigns address for new construction project & performs field
verifications for existing addresses.
Prepare GIS layers, applications, and data sets for various
departments, both internal & external.
Analyses various operations within the agency to determine issues and
adapts GIS applications to suit.
Perform administrative duties including creating budgets, ordering
equipment or supplies, reviewing invoices, writing grants, and
preparing contracts.
Maintain databases and ensure that these databases are up-to-date
and accurate.
Gathers field data for use in various mapping applications which may
include local 911 systems and others.
Print maps and map books following standard formats.
Produces maps and blueprints for use by government agencies,
companies, and the general public.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS Analysis, Environmental Science, Geography,
or related field.
Detail-oriented and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrates a keen understanding of spatial data and algorithms.
Understands how to convert data from older sources such as maps
and books into digital formats.
Understands how to create and edit metadata.
Demonstrates a vast knowledge of cartography and at least one
understanding of graphic design.

Installing, repairing, and maintaining computers and software used for
GIS applications.
Research new GIS technology to determine its potential utility for
specific applications within an organization.
Using GIS technology to create maps and other graphics from data
that has been gathered from field surveys or other sources.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, cartography, computer science, or a closely
related field
Knowledge of GIS software, AutoCAD, and related technologies
Understanding of Integrated GPS and GIS principles.
Knowledge of modern cartographic standards and principles.

Job description
Perform GIS data maintenance, analysis, entry, and conversion;
perform data research, investigation, and verification; assist with
solving technical problems and determining possible solutions.
Create, maintain, and update digital maps, drawings, plans,
spreadsheets, data files, and documentation for a variety of uses;
incorporate new developments, subdivisions, easements, and other
boundary changes; gather information from various sources,
including legal descriptions, survey data, document descriptions,
court records, and others.
Perform research activities to determine ownership and make
corrections and changes on existing maps; research property history;
review and prepare legal descriptions; research and process land
transactions and enter parcel change information; interpret detailed
plans, photographs, maps, and legal descriptions to generate reports.
Maintain and update Taxing District boundaries; identify tax roll
descriptions by correlating legal descriptions in deeds, contracts,
mortgages, and judgments with a cadastral map.
Respond to GIS and mapping requests from employees and the
public regarding property ownership, jurisdiction, and legal parcels;
provide owner-agent with statements to be recorded with plat; may
accompany owner-agent to recording office to ensure proper
statement recording; communicate with other departments and
agencies to clarify information and data.
In addition to the above duties, the senior level will: perform complex
GIS maintenance, analysis, and research activities; research and
resolve complicated deed and survey ambiguities and conflicts; notify
other departments and jurisdictions of changes; calculate land area
of parcels for use in valuation; maintain and update Taxing District
boundaries using annexation and Urban Renewal descriptions;
maintain a current version of assessor maps for use by the public
and employees; design, develop, and maintain GIS applications and
databases; prepare standard and ad hoc reports; participate in the
implementation and maintenance of the county GIS; produce reports
based on spatial analysis; design and produce computer generated
maps and reports for analysis and presentations; configure and
administer CAD mapping software; create macros and basic
programs to optimize recurrent mapping operations; design and
perform complex analysis and database queries; serve on project
teams to establish written procedures for process development.

GIS Technician Senior
Advanced level
Technical
Perform the most difficult assignments requiring a higher level of
responsibility, applying advanced subject knowledge, and exercising
significant independent judgment and initiative.
Receive work assignments in terms of objectives, priorities, and
deadlines.
Work is reviewed for technical accuracy, compliance to program
objectives, and overall results.
Receive general supervision from manager.
May exercise functional and technical supervision over staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are
determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the
individual position and business needs of the department.
GIS Technician Senior
Training and experience for advanced level, technical classifications are
typically equivalent to an associate 's degree and three (3) to six (6) years
of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the
position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
